TSMC and ARM announced successful validation of the 16FF (16nm FinFET) process technology using AMR's Cortex A57/Cortex A53 big.LITTLE implementation in silicon, after TSMC began trial production of the 16-nm process technology in the third quarter, according to TSMC's press release on September 30. Further collaboration between the two companies will focus on TSMC's 16FF+ process technology, which aims to improve Cortex-A57's performance by 11% at the same power and reduce the power consumption of Cortex-A53 by 35% when processing low-end tasks. 16FF+ process will be delivered by the fourth quarter of 2014, according to the company's schedule.
